LIFE LATELY: AUGUST

LIFE LATELY: AUGUST

AUGUST

Summer is still hanging on, but September was waiting in the wings. The light is starting to change, the F/W calendar filling in, and suddenly everyone is talking about the “ber” months and the sweater of the season.

This August, I found myself easing into that transition in the best possible way: slowly, intentionally, and with plenty keeping me busy.

There was a presentation in LA, project progress, a few very exciting new beginnings for the studio *and myself, and one particularly special photoshoot that kept me crossing things off my list right up until the end of the month.

At the studio

We’ve been making some serious progress on our Garden House project... There is nothing quite like seeing a room move from concept to oh, this is actually happening. More to come on that soon.

And speaking of happening… MKS signed a few new projects this month spanning from California to New York!

Let's just say I’m feeling especially grateful for the trust that comes with being invited into someone’s home and given the opportunity to help shape how they live in it.

August also brought a fair amount of presentation prep, which is one of those less glamorous parts of design that I actually really enjoy. Pulling the threads together, refining the story, obsessing over the details, and eventually seeing the whole thing click into place. The mood board may sit pretty, but there is a lot happening behind it.

The photoshoot

I spent the final stretch of August putting the finishing touches on a very special photoshoot.

The kind where there are approximately 1,047 little details to remember and somehow you become convinced that each one is absolutely critical.

It was one of those days that reminds me why I love what I do. The styling, the light, the layers!

If you missed the teaser, you can see the announcement here.

And I promise, there is a lot more where that came from.

A little closer to home

Outside of work, August looked a lot like summer should.

Homemade pickles made their annual appearance in my kitchen. There is something wonderfully old-fashioned about making a big jar of pickles at home, and I have decided that every August deserves at least one slightly ambitious kitchen project.

And then, just like that, the kids were back to school.

I always have mixed feelings about this one. The routine is welcome. The quiet is welcome. The clean slate of a new school year is exciting. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn't a little nostalgic for those long summer days, too (soccer tournaments included).

Maybe that is what I like about this time of year—the feeling of taking what was good about summer and carrying it forward, making it better, and giving room for what's next.

SO, here we are.

September.

The calendar is filling up, the projects are moving, and the studio is heading into a very full and very exciting season.

There will be more Garden House updates, new projects to share, behind-the-scenes from the photoshoot, and plenty of design decisions to obsess over along the way.

And if you're new around here, welcome. Our blog is where I share the beautiful parts of the work, the messy middle, and all the little things that inspire the way we make a home feel like you.

Thanks for being here and following along.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a September calendar to stare at and a suspicious number of paint samples on my desk.

xx, Molly
