LIFE LATELY: SEPTEMBER

LIFE LATELY: SEPTEMBER

If September had a personality, she would be the woman who arrives at the airport with a coffee in one hand, a garment bag in the other, 100 lbs of samples in her carry-on, and somehow still looks completely pulled together.

Last month was full. Beautifully, wonderfully, slightly chaotically full.

There were four client presentations, endless vintage treasures, back-to-back site visits, a wedding, a very personal reveal of my new home, a quick trip to New York and New Jersey, a red-eye-ish return to LA, a sourcing day with my team, Cattle Ranch project reveal and—finally—the launch of something we've been dreaming about for a very long time. So, before September disappears completely into the rearview, here's a little life lately.

First Stop: LA

The month started with a trip to LA for a client visit, and one of my favorite kinds of workdays: digging through a beautiful collection of vintage.

There is nothing quite like being surrounded by pieces that already have a life of their own. The worn edges, the patina, the unexpected shapes and details—you can feel the story in them.

We spent the day sorting, considering, moving things around, and asking the eternal designer question: Where could this go?

My favorite rooms are almost always the ones that feel collected over time, and days like this are a good reminder why. The goal isn't perfection. It's personality.

And while I was in LA, there was also a wedding to attend, which meant trading my designer hat for a dress and a glass of champagne. Not a bad way to end a work trip.

Back to Real Life (Sort Of)

Then came the presentations.

Back-to-back, lots-of-coffee, mood-board-open-on-every-surface kind of days. Between LA, Oregon and Washington, we had 4 presentations in 3 days!

There is a particular adrenaline that comes with presenting a project you've been quietly obsessing over. You know every fabric, every finish, every reason behind every decision—and then suddenly you get to tell the story out loud.

I love that part.

Because ultimately, design is storytelling. The rooms are just the setting.

And somewhere in the middle of all those presentations, I also shared something much more personal here: my new home.

Sharing my own home feels different than sharing a client project. There isn't a deadline or a mood board or a client brief to hide behind. It's personal. It's the things I've collected, the choices I've made, the rooms I'm actually living in.

And the response was so lovely. It reminded me that sometimes the spaces we create for ourselves can be the most revealing.

NYC, Then Right Back to LA

Next up: New York.

A quick trip, a lot of walking, even more looking, and the usual feeling that there are approximately 14 things happening in every city block. From PR meetings to site visits in Upstate and New Jersey...

I love New York for the inspiration as much as anything else. The shops, the restaurants, the architecture, the women on the street who somehow make running errands look like an editorial.

And then—because apparently I had not yet spent enough time in airports—it was straight back to LA. Meanwhile, we unveiled our Cattle Ranch project! A home we photographed a year ago and finally got to share. Pinch me!

This time another for a sourcing day with my team. There are few things I love more than a sourcing day. All of us looking at everything, touching everything, changing our minds, finding something completely unexpected and saying, Wait. This is so good.

Those are the days when the ideas really start to come together.

And Then… Molly Kidd Studio for Everhem

Which brings me to the very best part of the month.

Molly Kidd Studio for Everhem officially launched.

Welcome to Maison Molly! There is something incredibly special about seeing an idea you've talked about, sketched, sampled, edited, obsessed over, and lived with for months finally exist in the real world.

This collection was created to bring that collected, layered, lived-in feeling I love so much into the everyday home. Beautiful things, but things you actually want to live with.

And then came the launch event in LA.

There we were, surrounded by friends, clients, fellow creatives, and so many of you who have followed along with Molly Kidd Studio. Getting to see the fabrics in a room—and more importantly, seeing people interact with them—was such a full-circle moment.

It's easy to forget, when you're working behind a screen or buried in fabric samples, that there are actual people on the other side of all of it.

You.

And that community is the part I'm most grateful for.

September, In A Nutshell

Looking back, September feels a little like a stack of Polaroids:

Vintage in LA.
A wedding.
Presentation days.
Our new home.
New York streets.
An airplane back to LA.
Sourcing with my team.
And finally, a room full of people celebrating Molly Kidd Studio for Everhem.

A lot of movement. A lot of beautiful things. A lot of very good coffee.

But mostly, a month that reminded me why I love what I do.

Did I mention October is even busier?

And I'm so happy you're here for it.

If you haven't seen the collection yet, this is your sign. These are the pieces I've been wanting to put into the world for a long time—and I can't wait to see them make their way into your homes.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a suitcase to *pack or unpack.

Again.
