The first official day of fall is here, and suddenly I’m ready for all of it.
The layers. The leather. The good boots. The slightly oversized sweater that makes an otherwise very ordinary Friday feel a little more cinematic.
September always feels like a reset to me. A fresh calendar, a fuller schedule, cooler mornings, and that very specific urge to edit everything in my closet and make room for what’s next.
This month, I’m leaning into texture in a big way. Rich leather, soft knits, worn denim, suede, beautiful tailoring. Nothing overly precious. Nothing that needs too much explaining.
The palette is exactly where I want it: earthy and a little moody. My forever browns, creamy neutrals, worn black, a touch of grey, and just enough denim to keep everything from feeling too serious.
Think fall in the most effortless sense.
The pieces you throw on for a site visit, wear to dinner afterward, and somehow still look put together when you stop for one more coffee on the way home.
These are the things I’m eyeing this month.
THE LEATHER PIECE
There is something about September that makes leather feel like a necessity rather than a purchase.
A beautiful leather jacket, a structured bag, a pair of boots—the right piece instantly gives everything else a little more intention.
I’m especially drawn to rich chocolate and espresso tones this season. Black will always have her place, but brown leather has my heart right now.
And much like in a room, I love leather most when it’s balanced with something softer.
Think leather jacket + cream knit.
Leather trousers + oversized sweater.
Structured bag + very lived-in denim.
The juxtaposition is the whole point.

THE DENIM
I don’t think I’ll ever tire of good denim.
There is something so grounding about it.
This month I’m looking for denim with a little more personality—a relaxed straight leg, a darker wash, maybe something slightly slouchy and perfectly imperfect.
The goal is not “new jeans.”
The goal is the jeans.
The pair you reach for when you don't know what to wear, which is usually how you know they’re right.
Pair them with a cream sweater and loafers for the day. Add a leather jacket and heels at night.
Same jeans. Different mood.
THE LITTLE THING
And then there are the pieces that don't necessarily make the outfit—but somehow make it feel like you.
A beautiful belt.
A sculptural pair of earrings.
A silk scarf tied around the handle of a bag.
A great pair of sunglasses.
The accessory that you buy thinking, I don't need this, and then wear constantly for the next three years.
Those are my favorite purchases.
Small, but considered.
This month, I’m especially drawn to warm metals, deep brown leather, tortoiseshell, and anything with just enough texture to make a simple outfit feel finished.

THE SEPTEMBER RULE
Buy for the season you actually want to live in.
For me, that means pieces that don't scream fall fashion but quietly make everything I already own feel new again.
A great sweater.
A beautiful leather jacket.
The right denim.
A pair of boots.
A bag that gets better with wear.
Things with texture. Things with longevity. Things that feel like me.
Because the older I get, the less interested I am in a closet full of things and the more interested I am in a closet full of really good things.
And maybe that's the real September reset.
Less, but better.
More texture. More layers. More pieces that make getting dressed feel like a little bit of a ritual.
