LIFE LATELY: MAY

LIFE LATELY: MAY

MAY IN MOTION

May felt a little like living in two suitcases and one very overfilled calendar. One week I was overseeing an install in Winter Park, the next I was in New York celebrating 1stDibs 50, followed immediately by LA meetings, late dinners, and gathering inspiration faster than I could save it.

In other words: life lately.

We started the month in Winter Park for an install that reminded me exactly why I love this work so much. There’s always a point during install week where everything feels slightly chaotic — furniture wrapping everywhere, schedules shifting by the hour, someone asking for scissors every twelve seconds — and then suddenly it all clicks into place. The lighting turns on, the florals arrive, the styling gets layered in, and the home finally starts telling its story...Those are the moments I live for.

Immediately after wrapping the install, I headed home for Mother's Day and then back to the East Coast to New York for the 1stDibs 50 celebration, which still feels surreal to type. Being included for MKS' second year in a row among so many designers and creatives I admire was such an incredible honor and honestly one of those moments that makes you pause for a second and look at how far things have come.

New York also has a way of making everything feel cinematic. Maybe it’s the energy or the pace or the fact that everyone somehow looks impossibly well dressed while casually walking ten blocks. But every time I’m there, I leave creatively recharged. The restaurants, the architecture, the shop windows, the conversations — inspiration feels endless there.

I packed my schedule pretty tightly while I was in the city, but those are usually the trips I love most. See my little black book here! Early coffee meetings, late dinners, running into my hotel just long enough to change outfits, running downtown with five minutes to spare. Exhausting? Slightly. Fun? Always.

P.S. We may or may not have a new project in Upstate...

Then came Sunny LA for a site visit(s).

Which, in typical LA fashion, immediately shifted the pace. The light, the slower mornings, the indoor-outdoor everything. I had a few meetings while I was there, but I also gave myself time to wander a little, which usually ends up being when I find the most inspiration anyway. A perfectly worn vintage chair in a lobby. The color palette inside a tiny coffee shop. A stone detail on the exterior of a house that I will absolutely be saving for later.

I came home with a camera roll full of things that probably only make sense to me and approximately a hundred new ideas for upcoming projects.

And then there's home. Some exciting things to share on that front very soon...
