LIFE LATELY: OCTOBER

LIFE LATELY: OCTOBER

OCTOBER P.S. I LOVE YOU

October is my favorite. It always feels like the most cinematic month — the light, the air turns, and somehow everything feels both busier and more beautiful. This one, especially, was full of new beginnings.

We started the month with demo day at our Christmas Tree Farm project — that satisfying moment when a space sheds its old layers and the vision starts to come to life. There’s something so exhilarating about honoring the past and imagining what’s to come.

Then the wind took me south to Bend, where I met with our newest client whose home and potential left me instantly inspired. There’s a raw, grounded beauty in Central Oregon — the way the landscape mixes ruggedness and restraint — that always finds its way into my design work.

I quickly hopped on a flight to Scottsdale, Arizona for Desert Design Week, where I had the honor of speaking on a panel about antiques and all things vintage. Standing before a room full of 100 designers who traveled and paid to be there, surrounded by the warmth of the desert, felt deeply affirming. I left with a sun-drenched mind, full of new ideas and gratitude for the creative community I get to be part of.

Back home, life took on a cozy rhythm again — pumpkin patches with the kids, packing for Paris, and the biggest surprise of the month… our family grew. We welcomed Charlie, our sweet new puppy, who has already filled our home with SO much joy (and the softest yet most chaotic little paws padding across my studio floors). He’s as curious as he is cuddly, and somehow, it feels like he’s always been part of my life.

And finally, Paris. I’ll never tire of it — early morning walks to cafés, color palettes drawn from centuries-old buildings, and that unmistakable buzz of inspiration around every corner. From there, we headed south to Nice, where I celebrated my birthday and had the most elegant pause of my life. I felt like I’d crossed into another world — one scented with lavender and quiet. The kind of place that can only be described as sacred.

Now, as I settle back into life in the Pacific Northwest, with rain tapping on the windows, kids cuddling by the fire, and Charlie asleep at my feet, I can’t help but feel grateful. For the movement, the beauty, the work, and the quiet rhythm of home that makes it all make sense.

Here’s to October — a month of transformation, travel, and the sweetest new beginning of all.

As a designer, I’ve always believed in honoring transitions. The most beautiful spaces aren’t transformed overnight; they evolve. You shift a chair toward the light. You trade wool for linen.
